Xabi Alonso is and will always be my favorite player of all time. When he left Liverpool, I can remember being absolutely gutted by the news. He was told to that he was “expendable” (so to speak) by Rafa and he left to sign with Real Madrid. He still loves LFC and we still love him.
With Xabi gone I naturally gravitated to Fernando Torres to be my Anfield hero. And he was. While he was with Liverpool I felt as if he was going to be it for me. The man that would make me forgive the franchise for letting my hero go. Then he darted for Chelsea. It was a completely different situation as he betrayed us and we don’t love him anymore. Well at least I don’t.
During the first half of the season I started to love everything Raul Meireles did for us. He became my favorite man in an LFC kit. He made sweet crosses and scored when nobody else could. He seemed primed for a long LFC career and wanted even more years tacked on to his contract.
But now it seems like he too is “expendable”. With Charlie Adam pretty much a Red now (soon enough) and the overly priced Jordan Henderson signed on, it sounds as if Raul is being pushed out. If this is the case my love for all things LFC will definitely start to fade again. Maybe more so then ever.
Remember what happened last time we sold a super talented midfielder because he was “expendable”? DO NOT LET RAUL GO.
